Why Do Bisexual Women Keep Identifying as Lesbians?

I’m going to be real with you, chief. I don’t prioritise the hyper-individualistic, deluded mentality of *~creating our own reality~* and identifying as things we literally just cannot be. Especially not when it costs a vulnerable community the language they require to ever liberate themselves from oppression. Get your selfish boots off lesbians’ fucking necks.

We live in a global community. We have a responsibility to be honest with one another about the shared material reality we experience. But 2026 feels like both wings of politics have been clipped and are falling to the ground in a state of psychosis. Actually, that’s too nice of me to suggest. Psychosis indicates a lack of agency over the illness. No, there is no illness. People just care more about their own reputations and convenient narratives that further their political agendas than they do about what’s right, real and true.

Nothing threatens heteropatriarchy like a lesbian. That’s why we can’t publicly explain that lesbianism is defined by our LACK of desire for the male body without being cancelled for all kinds of thought crimes. Meanwhile, bisexual women keep vomiting up thinkpieces on large platforms about how they’re a “lesbian” who is attracted to the male body without consequence.

Lesbophobia isn’t taken seriously enough for it to be a cancellable offence. It’s encouraged. Bisexual women are getting books published about how they can apparently be a lesbian in a “political way,” not a female homosexual way. Meanwhile, if you mention the obvious–lesbians don’t desire penises–then prepare to be stalked, threatened and have a hate campaign waged against you. I know from experience.

To be honest, I’m tired. While I appreciated all of your messages of support when I was under fire for saying lesbians don’t like penis, my empathy for lesbians who care more about their Instagram following than their liberation is waning. I’m no martyr. Stop expecting others to do the honest work at their own expense and fucking stand up. To those who know I’m right but followed the crowd anyway: congratulations on your cowardly, pathetic existence. Your parents clearly did a shit job.

Bisexual women who identify as lesbians while being attracted to the male body obviously put lesbians in danger. Non-lesbians speaking on behalf of lesbians, while pretending to be lesbians, reflects and perpetuates the disbelief in lesbianism itself. I just wish lesbophobes could care about that, instead of employing the “mean lesbian” homophobic stereotype to guilt us into eroding all of our boundaries. It’s predatory.

Lesbophobes attempt to use late-blooming lesbians as a “gotcha!” to leave the door open for bisexual women to identify as lesbians. Lesbians who have slept with men in the past were never attracted to the male body. They never desired sex with men. Heteropatriarchal society coerces lesbians to have sex with men–and marry them, and have kids with them–because heterosexuality is forcefully expected. We call that heterocoercion on this website. But lesbians do not have the ability to desire penises. You do, or have? You’re not lesbian.

Why don’t bisexual women call themselves bisexual? The inappropriately inclusive, ironically regressive “queer” community deny that a bisexual woman’s attraction to the male sex–even if not acted upon–is a heteronormative privilege; therefore, differentiating lesbianism from bisexuality is viewed as exclusionary. While bisexuals might appear like a glitch to heteropatriarchy, lesbians show up as a full error. Heteropatriarchal society perceives lesbians as unnatural due to our lack of attraction to males. Procreation is perceived as the human purpose by religion and science alike.

Lesbians are victim-blamed by bisexual women who want to identify as us. Because, let’s be very fucking clear, bisexuality is different to homosexuality. The fact that we have to spell this out and say it slowly says everything lesbians need to know: you do not see homosexuality as possible because, if you did, then you would not treat bisexuality and lesbianism as interchangeable terms or identities.

Lesbians do not have the ability to desire the male body. Not even years ago. Not ever. Don’t relate? You’re not a lesbian. There is no grey area. Bisexuality is the grey area. A bisexual person who only dates one sex for the rest of their life is still bisexual–regardless of how they refer to themselves–and it erases bisexuality to suggest otherwise.

Wow! Thank you for saying what I have been saying for years! I am tired of lesbian erasure and I’m tired of being the butt of the fucking joke always. I am a lesbian. I’m tired of talking about my LIVED EXPERIENCE as being a lesbian and that being called biphobic. I am tired of society trying to change me centerness. Lordt! Thank you for writing this. Feels like I am not alone or crazy. I also write for substack, similar topics

i mean, it seems obvious to me––bisexuality became this thing people started using to gain cultural capital which made it an enormous joke. people who were not actually bisexual started identifying that way because they wanted in on some subcultural moment, to signal that they were interesting or different. then actually gay folks started to push back on it and call it out and the bi girls who actually fuck women (but still primarily date cis men let’s be real) needed to hold onto their queerness. since the word bisexual now means something new (read: clout chasing fake queer) actual bisexual women are pushing into the lesbian margin to maintain a sense of queer identity.
but language matters beyond cultural context. these women have always been bi, just like the folks ruining the bisexuality party have always been straight.
if you grew up prior to the 2000s or outside of a major city, you know that being a lesbian isn’t something you flaunt to be ‘cool’ because it isn’t always fucking safe. it’s not a choice you make, it’s not something you can change about yourself. it’s insulting. and we all know at the end of the day all of these women will marry a horrible cis guy lol

“My empathy for lesbians who care more about their Instagram following than their liberation is waning.” Described my current situation. I’m not going to feel bad for pointing it out anymore, those women are aware (if they’re real lesbians) that we’re not attracted to men romantically or sexually, they insist on it to keep their privileges because of course bisexual women make a majority against lesbian women as a fandom/viewers. They’ve to keep those women happy while lesbianism goes back 30 years.

100% agree with this post! It’s so tiring having people think lesbianism is fluid like bisexuality. Not everyone is fluid and not everyone wants to have sex with men/enjoys penis. It’s not biphobic to say that but sadly that’s where we are now in this time frame!!
